Biking and Hiking Trails

The south cell contains over eight miles of trails that circle around a large, beautiful pond and include breathtaking views of the Chesapeake Bay. 

Long Trail Loop (1.8 miles): Interpretive signage details the various wildlife and different ecosystems that are a part of Hart-Miller Island as well as the history on this unique, one of a kind area.

The south cell of Hart-Miller Island is accessible Thursday through Monday beginning May 1st and ending September 30th from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. 

The south cell, bike rentals and concession purchases are unavailable Tuesdays, Wednesdays and during inclement weather.

Camping

Camping is available from May 1-September 30.

Hart-Miller Island State Park offers 22 campsites available on a first come, first serve basis. Reservations must be made on the island::

  • 6 sites in the main camping area on Hart-Miller Island

  • 11 sites at Hawk Cove

  • 5 sites on Pleasure Island

All sites have a picnic table, lantern post and campfire grill.

Campfires may only be built in the fire rings provided.​​

Pets are allowed, but must be on leash and cleaned up after at all times

BIRDING

Hart-Miller Island is one of the top five eBird hotspots in all of Maryland, with over 298 observed species reported on eBird, and 308 species on the official list maintained by the Maryland Ornithological Society. With its placement in the upper Chesapeake Bay, at the mouths of Back River and Middle River in southeastern Baltimore County, Hart-Miller Island is well-positioned to host fall and spring migrating birds as well as summer breeders and overwintering birds. 4TH ANNUAL CHARM CITY FUN RUN

We are excited to announce that The Hart-Miller Island Run is back and registration is now open. The 4th Annual Hart-Miller Island Run will take place on October 21st, 2023. The race is limited to 120 registrants and 25 guests (one guest per registrant until guest limit has been reached) and will sell out quickly. Join us for a one of a kind unique experience by clicking the "Sign Up" link above!

Registration includes:

  • Race themed shirt

  • Shuttle and boat transportation to and from the island

  • A 5.3 mile course that completes a full loop of the island

  • Overall and age group awards 

  • Light refreshments post race
